Students will learn about preparing clay and different techniques of ceramics from pinch pots and coiled pottery, to slab building and throwing. Students are also guided on aspects of decoration and glazing.

Claire Ireland – Experimental Ceramic Workshop: starts 18 September 2017

Due to the demand for additional places in my ceramic classes I am pleased to offer a new ten week course at the Museum where my studio is based – starting Monday 18th September 2017. Note: Best to book early as demand will be high!

This course will explore the use of clay in an experimental way, using a variety of hand building and mould making techniques. Looking at how to achieve a variety of surfaces, exploring texture, colour and glaze with an emphasis on test pieces within the making.

There will be an opportunity to work with paper clay as part of this process, working on personal design projects; supporting the development of individual ideas. Students will be encouraged to use sketchbooks for their research and to document all experiments and tests

Times: Monday 10.00 – 1.00 for 10 weeks starting on 18 September 2017

Fee: £350.00 (Includes cost of clay and firings)

Level: for makers who want to expand on their skills and are working towards independent practice
