Kigbeare Workshops for makers
Examples of Courses run at Kigbeare are shown in this news page – a few places are left, but anyway worth contacting them if you interested as they run regular evening classes as well as frequent workshops with major makers.
Niek Hoogland – Tableware WorkshopNiek Hoogland is one of the undisputed top makers, specialising in making beautiful functional tableware - plates and bowls, serving dishes, mugs, cups, etc – from earthenware. He is also a consummate slipware decorator, and has the wonderful ability to transfer his knowledge to his students. Using terracotta clay, this workshop will focus on making tableware, and will appeal to makers with various levels of skill. You don’t need to be a thrower to do this workshop, but you will need to be able to throw a basic cylinder or bowl if you want to use a wheel to make your work. If you want to hand build, you will need to understand the basics of hand building to get the full benefits of Niek’s teaching. The 3 days will cover making, trimming, pulling handles and slipping. The third day will focus on decorating and raw glazing all the work made the previous two days. Date: 29th, 30th June and 1st July ( 3 days) Any questions, or to reserve your place: – BE QUICK 2 PLACES LEFT – 1/5/2018 |
Glaze workshop – Matthew Blakely.
Matt Blakely is a distinguished and internationally known potter. Best known, perhaps, for his knowledge of how glazes are made and fired. He makes ceramic pieces that are entirely created from rocks and minerals that he collects from all over the UK and probably the world.
Kigbeare Studios is delighted to host a 3 day workshop where Matt will share his extensive knowledge of how to make glazes and how best to fire them. This is a hands-on workshop, which will involve running clay tests using your own samples or ones he has brought with him, and glaze line blends, using both the electric and gas kilns.
Be prepared to head out onto Dartmoor and collect materials for future testing, under his expert guidance.
Date: 27th – 29th July 2018
Time: 9.30 – 5.00 pm
Cost: £450 per person to include refreshments & lunch daily
All the places on this workshop are now taken – you can put your name down for a cancellation however, or to have first refusal if Matthew runs another workshop.
