Trevor Corser 1938 – 2015

I was sorry to hear that Trevor has just died aged 77. He was a great character and I well remember him showing me round the Leach Pottery at St. Ives before it closed in 2006, when after many decades he reluctantly had to leave.

Trevor Corser was born in Oldham and arrived in St.Ives, Cornwall as a young fisherman. ¬†Instead he became a workshop assistant, stacking kilns and packing pots for Bernard Leach in the 1960′s. ¬†When Bernard died in 1979, he moved from ‘standard ware’ to helping Janet Leach produce one off pieces.. When she died in 1997, Corser ran the pottery with Joanna Wason until its closure in 2006. He always produced ‘Leach tradition’ wheel-thrown functional stoneware of high quality.
