Students will learn about preparing clay and different techniques of ceramics from pinch pots and coiled pottery, to slab building and throwing. Students are also guided on aspects of decoration and glazing.

Studio Pottery Making techniques: A terms course covers a project in each - pinching, coiling, slab building and throwing.

ICF – Potclays Emerging Makers Award


The Potclays Emerging Makers Award is an opportunity for UK based new ceramicists and artists working with clay who have graduated from a UK University or Institute of Higher Education within the past five years (including those graduating in summer 2015). Six makers will be selected to give a presentation about their practice as a short illustrated talk (Powerpoint presentation) during the festival weekend. They will also be asked to display examples of their work in an exhibition at the International Ceramics Festival. All six selected applicants will receive free entry to the festival (excluding accommodation and subsistence). One of the finalists will be awarded an ICF New and Emerging Makers International Visiting Artist Award to take place at the Archie Bray Foundation in the USA in November 2016. The winners of the 2013 Emerging Makers International Visiting Artist Awards -Tina Neale and Lisa Svensk will also give presentations on their residencies as part of the lecture programme.
