Richard Godfrey (1949-2014) A bright star to all who knew him!

blogrichardgodfrey

It is with great sadness that I have to note that dear Richard left us on Saturday 13 December (2014). Always generous in spirit and in giving his time, always cheerful, he was a bright star in the ceramic world. I will miss him badly and I know that all his friends and colleagues will also. Deepest sympathy and condolences to Chris and the family.

The funeral on 22 December 2014 was attended by over 500 people and the church, although not small (Holy Cross, Newton Ferrers) was filled to overflowing. It was a fitting tribute to a man, who though-out his life had been full of love and fun, helping others at every turn and bringing smiles and joy to all who he met.  The service included moving tributes by his three children (our hearts reached out to them in their loss, but equally their moving tributes to Dad demonstrated so fully what a wonderful father he had been to them all.) prayers were led by his sisters and he departed to the sounds of the Beach Boys. We are all devastated to lose Richard, but he lives on with all who knew and cherished him.

Richard’s work (shown below) was so Richard – bright, full of life and joy, delivered with consummate skill :
