Julie Massie – Ceramic Artist
Julie Massie has taken inspiration from the fragile edges of waves breaking onto the coastline.  After many years of teaching art in secondary schools and with her passion for ceramics she embarked on a MA Ceramics course at UCA Farnham, which she completed in 2016. Throughout her MA Julie Massie took her inspiration for her artwork from the Jurassic Coastline near to where she lives.
“I find the chalk cliffs interesting and beautiful; its fragility fascinating.”
Her work is wall based – either shards of stained porcelain that are framed or tiles that are stitched onto canvas to create wall hangings. Massie was selected for COLLECT17 by the Crafts Council, which was held at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Adele Howitt – Ceramic & Public Artist
Adele’s ceramic art manifests as a series of large and small ceramic sculptures – intricate, seemingly delicate, focussed on microscopic pollen grains and wild landscapes.  Adele initiated the celebratory exhibition entitled Hinterwater - a new collaboration between sound artist, painter, poet, and ceramicist, to celebrate the 10 years of Studio Eleven.   It sparked an investigation into the wildflowers and grasses alongside the confluence of the Rivers, Humber, Ouse, and Trent, where nature is beginning to triumph and reclaim these waterways and flatlands with plants such as buddleia, rosebay, willow herb, meadow grass and thistle.  New sculpture in clay responds to those themes.

Adele has exhibited across Europe and the world including, the Yingge Ceramics Museum Teipei (Taiwan).  In her public work, Adele spent 3 years working with the Hornsea Renaissance Partnership and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to design and produce an exciting trail influenced by the famous Hornsea Pottery.  The trail is now open to the public as a celebration of the town’s pottery history.
