Northern Potters at the Platform Gallery (19-01-2008 - 08-03-2008)
19 Jan 2008
2008 sees the welcome return of the Northern Potters Association
to the Platform Gallery, Clitheroe. The NPA last exhibited in
Clitheroe in 2002 and Ribble Valley Borough Council's Platform
Gallery is delighted to host a new exhibition of work selected
from the current membership.
The exhibition will feature work by long standing members as well as several newcomers, graduates from the Universities in Preston and Manchester.
Says Grace Whowell, Platform Gallery Co-ordinator "it is always exciting to show work that is made within the region and this exhibition will illustrate the diversity and quality of ceramics work being produced in the North of the UK".
Most work will be for sale and the gallery operates the OWN ART interest free purchasing scheme operated by Arts Council England and Hitachi Bank.
Related workshops and events will also be taking place at the Gallery during the exhibition.
For more information and images, contact Grace Whowell, gallery Co-ordinator on 01200 443071, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Notes on the NPA
The Northern Potters Association was founded in 1977 to promote and encourage an interest in all kinds of ceramics. Although the emphasis was originally on studio pottery, today's membership includes practitioners making functional, decorative and sculptural pieces for all environments.
Within the first year membership grew to 130, and now, 30 years on, stands at over 330. It includes makers at all levels - professional ceramists, hobbyists, students and teachers, as well as gallery owners, collectors, and those who simply enjoy looking at (and handling) ceramics.
Over the years the NPA has organised lectures, demonstrations and workshops given by some of the top ceramic artists of the day, and held exhibitions of members' work in private and public galleries throughout the region. 2007 saw the second visit to the.gallery@oxo, on London's South Bank, spreading the word about our passion for ceramics further afield.
The range of work produced demonstrates the versatility of the basic material - clay - transformed by the skill and imagination of the makers.
NPA is a not-for-profit organisation, run by a committee of volunteers.
