My work always begins on the wheel. My attention to detail and finishing are a signature quality of my work.
The influence of native art from many countries is evident in my incised blackware and in my burnished and smoke-fired vessels.
The spectacular effects of the smoke-firing are helping me to learn that imbalance and spontaneity can be a good thing. From my free-form incised blackware I am learning not to calculate and plan everything, that each thing we do is a step which flows to the next thing, and to let go, trust and just know that “it all fits”.
My continuing vision is to work in the peaceful natural setting of my home producing quality pieces for discerning customers.

My work is in many private collections including 2 pieces purchased by former US President Bill Clinton. A piece of my smoke-fired pottery was chosen to be in the National Exhibition, Canadian Pavillion at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Korea in September 2009. Another smoke-fired piece was chosen to be part of the 2010 Olympics Fine Craft Exhibition at the Vancouver Museum Jan - April, 2010

The smoke-fired vessels are slipped and burnished to fuse the clay, helping to seal the surface and produce the fine sheen. For decorative purposes they are smoked in combustible materials such as sawdust, pine cones and leaves. The leaves transfer their carbon to the porous pots resulting in a photo-like image. As the artist I can influence the outcome but I cannot control the spontaneity of the firing, resulting in truly unique pieces.
My functional pottery is glazed and fired to Cone 6.
My incised blackware is also fired to Cone 6. I brush a black slip onto a brown stoneware clay then carve freehand patterns through the slip.
Born, raised and worked in Vancouver in the graphic arts field before running away to the woods of the BC interior where I became a potter in 1992. I enrolled in Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design for their summer ceramics program, read everything I could find on ceramics and attended many workshops with internationally known potters.
I am a member of the BC Potters Guild, Crafts Council of BC and the Okanagan Potters Association.
