Artists Statement

  Jackie has over 30 years experience in the arts and crafts profession, and creates unique individually crafted art sculpture to a diverse range of customers throughout the UK. She is located in Hastings, East Sussex.

She creates high quality artistically crafted figurative sculptures, including wall panels, portrait busts and stylized animal figures. The pieces are made with the sculptures fine eye for detail and artistic merit and are appropriate for home or commercial use.

Technical Information

I work mostly with stoneware clay and use earthenware glazes, stains and slips to create the colours. These are fired in an electric kiln to earthenware temperatures.

History and Background

Born: 1958

1974-76    Art Foundation Course, Hastings College.
1976-79    BA Hons Degree in Glass & Ceramics, Stourbridge College of Art.
1979-80    Research Fellowship, Sunderland Polytechnic, Studying “Pate de Verre” techniques.
1980-81    Pottery Assistant, Old Town Pottery, Hastings
1981-85    Ceramic designer and modeller for various retail outlets. Mainly Camden Lock Market.
1985-89    Moved to Metropolitan Studios, London E5. Undertook private commissions.
1988-92    Birth of son and daughter. Moved to Worcester. Ceased commercial work.
1992-2002 Returned to Hastings with partner and family. Re-established small studio producing commissioned ceramics. Joined ceramics group ‘Clay people of Hastings’ (CPH). Worked on workshops, exhibitions and demonstrations.
Became ‘Artist-in-Residence’ at various junior schools within East Sussex. Part-time teacher a Hastings College of Art.
2002-04    Studied HND Crafts at Hastings College of Art.
2004-05    College technician in ceramics dept, Hastings College.
2005-present Concentrating of developing personal work.
