Artists Statement
I am a ceramic artist creating hand thrown functional and decorative ware for the home. I work in white stoneware and porcelain. I am currently developing through three form ideas. One is a plate / bowl form that it thrown and altered. I am inspired along this form by the precision of the product of the surrounding industry yet I wish to maintain the energy if the throwing process within the piece. Platters and bowls: Bowls and Ginger Jars among other forms that I am currently making are a more domestic standard. With these simple forms I am exploring my interest in glaze and the reactions of glazes as they are overlapped over one another. The third form sequence I am working on are freely thrown and altered cylinders with a simple glaze such as tenmoku with dolomite or a plain green celadon. These forms are concentrating on the energy of throwing a simple strong form to display the distortions of quick strong throwing without interruption.
