Current Work

I work with red earthenware clay using coloured slips and glazes. My primary interest is in decoration and form which I aim to blend together to make work which is functional but enjoyable and special to use. I endeavour to combine my enjoyment of drawing with the spontaneous and colourful medium of fluid slip and glazes. Recent work using clay extrusions, in addition to the wheel, has resulted in  forms which serve as wonderfully inspiring  canvases for my illustrative decoration  and which move away from the constraints of obvious functionality.

Most of my work is sold through our own showroom in Dumfries and Galloway.
Other work is sold through gallery exhibitions and retail shows such as Potfest.

Slips - Hyplas 71 or white Fremington with oxide and stain additions for colour.
Glazes - clear glaze for slipware
Matt coloured glazes

History

1954 - Born Edinburgh, brought up in Kelso
1972 - Year in NW Sicily helping to set up a pottery in Scopello (village regeneration project for Dartington Hall school leavers). Making wood fired slip decorated pottery.
1973 - 1977 - BA hons in ceramics at Bath Academy of Art.
1978 - Set up pottery in Galloway S.W. Scotland
