Artist's StatementI first worked with ceramics at the age of 14 years as a trainee in the antique trade, handling almost any household object including fine paintings on occasions. I started collecting sample pieces of pottery from around the world and as my interest grew so did my desire to be involved in the creative process itself. I had always painted and drawn in an amateur way and had a strong interest in modern art and architecture. Without much formal education and no qualifications, art school seemed a reasonable option and being a potter, perhaps, a real job! Fifty years on it still seems to have been the best option. Having found Dame Lucie Rie and Hans Coper as both teachers and friends at Camberwell School of Art the choice became a more positive one. I taught alongside them at Camberwell for 13 years whilst establishing the Pimlico Pottery in Central London. It flourished as a workshop, gallery and teaching institution from 1965 until 2002. My present studio is near Brockenhurst in the New Forest National Park and is unbelievably peaceful! My new work reflects the ability to give all my attention to each piece. Books & Publications
