Current Work
Earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. Firings are done in electric kilns. Bright coloured glazes at earthenware and more muted earthy colours, some unglazed at stoneware. Large coiled pieces made in grogged clay fired to stoneware. Strong definite shapes, well finished, smooth or rough textured in part. I also enjoy making figurative sculptured figures in the grogged clay, unglazed with oxides rubbed into the surface to give stone-like finish. To contrast with these heavily grogged, pieces I enjoy throwing small delicate pots in porcelain with a white finish. Technical InformationElectric kilns - where firings are done in both earthenware (1120 degrees C) and stoneware (1260 degrees C). I make most of my glazes, but do use some commercial colours. Career Background
After leaving Croydon College of Art where I had specialised in pottery, I set up a studio pottery selling domestic stoneware to Galleries and craft shops and did some part-time teaching in Colleges. After a few years I moved to a Northamptonshire village where I converted an old school into a studio pottery and home. I have now moved with my partner (who grows alpines) to Norfolk and we plan to combine the plants and pots. |
