Artists Statement
My work is concerned with capturing the spontaneity of working with clay and I make in an instinctive way, allowing the material to move freely through my hands. The forms can be fluid and at times organic, at others, more controlled. But each time they are a surface receptive to the subtleties of woodfiring and, as I make, I think of where they will go in the kiln and how the touch of the flame will change them. My work is a response to my love of clay and the direct contact I have with it, guided by my ongoing fascination with the firing process. It is this relationship between artist, material and process that I find so alluring. There are numerous elements which change each time to create an excitingly unpredictable result.
