Artists Statement

Artists Statement

I try to capture passing moments, phases of my life or social exchanges. I translate my personal world into clay works which are open to your own interpretation. I hope these objects offer enjoyable adornment. Their story of origin is mostly unimportant to an impartial observer but for myself as a maker the fixing of memories gives my clay work durable significance.

I’m sparked by the urge to catalogue my passing personal world so that each object acts as a marker in my ”time line.” The work reveals my personal world and interests. Their intended tone is serious with an infusion of comicality. I combine my studio practice with teaching at The City Lit and run short, half day making and raku firing courses at my Kingsgate studio.

My commissioned history, techniques and technical overview book, “The Complete Practical Potter” and “Beginners Ceramic Handbook” have been translated and sold in many countries around the world and are still available to purchase.
