I work as a ceramic sculptor, mainly creating endangered species but over the years it has become a very wide diversity of animals. All the sculptures start from pinch pots and are built up as hollow pieces about 1cm in thickness. Most of my work is one off pieces but I occasionally create pieces to be cast as press molds. The work is all fired to about 1150c and finished using acrylics.

Julian Jardine - Children's Clay Sculpting
28th October 2014 to 20th December 2014
I started off in 1993 in a small studio in Dundee where I worked for a number of years. In 1997 I took a year out to go to Worcester, Massachusetts and do an artist in residency. After returning to the UK and working for another 2 years self employed I was taken on by a computer games company to do 3D graphics. After the games company wound up in 2005 I started sculpting again and by 2008 I opened the Jardine Gallery and Workshop in Perth.
At the beginning of 2013 my partner and I opened the Workshop, a new shop across from the gallery specifically for the classes to be held in. This gives us a great opportunity to increase the diversity of classes we run and involve more artists. We also hope to run weekend workshops during the school holidays and attract visiting artists to come and demonstrate their skills.
The Jardine Gallery in turn will have more room for displaying artwork and continue to be my workshop where I can work on personal pieces while not involved with teaching.
In 2008 I picked up a silver award in the Craft and Design Selected awards and I was lucky enough to be a finalist again in the 2012 competition. I was also a selected finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the year competition in 2012.
