Artists Statement
I have always had a fascination with three dimensional forms. I find myself rooted in functional work, but while being influenced everyday by my modern surroundings, thus creating a constant contrast in my work. I choose to work predominantly with wheel thrown vessels. Through the tradition of ceramics and the influence of urban forms of expression such as hip hop music, vibrantly colored linear graffiti designs, and the city as a whole,I attempt to create work that encompasses who I am; while constantly being influenced by my role in this modern time, juxtaposed to my love for traditional forms. My work aims to please the hands and the eye, while providing mental stimulation. The beauty of function is simply that. Using something that is uniquely handmade has a level of personal connection between the user and maker, which is what makes the clay come alive. I use ceramics as my tool for creating objects that can please the masses by using ideas that are inspired by those same masses.
