Artist's Statement

I graduated as a mature student from Buckinghamshire and Chilterns University in 2001. My inspiration is taken from the special kind of beauty of evolved intuitive design and mastery of material and technique through constant repetition. I have a fascination with achieving harmony and balance between surface and form.

Much of my research is directed to ancient pots that, for me, exude attitude and ritual; the Japanese tea ceremonial vessels which inspire much of my work in porcelain for example. I strive to achieve spontaneity and freshness with my making resulting in simple, calm, and tactile pots. More recent work reflects my interest in medieval pottery, both Saxon and Viking in origin.

Current Work

Porcelain drinking and associated serving dishes and tea bowls. Platters, and jugs. Stoneware historically inspired drinking, cooking, and storage vessels.

Technical Information

I fire to 1000 degrees C. bisque in an electric kiln followed by glaze firing to 1260°C to 1280°C reduction firing in a gas kiln.
