Artist's Statement

Artist's Statement

Originally from Yorkshire, I trained at Camberwell College of Art and the Royal College of Art, and now live and work in Sussex.

I make hand built painterly vessel forms exploring a number of ideas and themes – landscapes, domestic interiors, seascapes etc. – through abstraction and symbolism, and through the use of colour, texture and mark making. Both drawing and painting inform the work.

My work is in both private and public collections in Britain and abroad, including the Crafts Council collection and South East Arts.

I am the founder and head of the Ceramics Diploma course at City Lit College in central London.

Technical Information

Technical Information

The vessels are hand built using slabs if clay. The clay is a white stoneware body. The clay surfaces are drawn onto and incised into both before and after building.

Layers of colour are built up using slips, oxides, body stains, underglaze colours and glazes.
The work is fired to about 1150 degree C.
