Artist's Statement
I work exclusively with porcelain to create my thrown tableware. This
luscious material helps me to achieve the soft, fluid qualities that I
aspire to. I design my pots to be used, handled and enjoyed in the
pleasurable experiences of eating and drinking. I aim to capture a
sense of rhythm and energy in the finished work by leaving strong
throwing rings which produces an undulating surface for tactile
sensation when the object is in use. Inspiration is drawn from the soft
lines, silhouettes and contours of the human body as well as shapes and
forms in the natural world such as the internal spiral structure of a
shell. The simplicity and aesthetic values of Japanese ceramics also
inspire me. My aim is to keep the clay's soft, sensual qualities alive
in the finished objects. Technical InformationI use three glazes mixed by myself from raw materials. All work is reduction fired in a gas kiln to 1280°c History
