Artist's Statement
I make functional slipware, a range of platters, jugs, bowls etc. - oven to table ware in small series all made to serve. I also accept commissions to make commemorative pieces for weddings, christenings etc. There is a strong emphasis on decoration in my work and am continuing to explore repeat patterns using paper resist. I use Earthenware (clay de Provence/valentines mix). The work is thrown and altered, decorated with layers of coloured slips which are dipped, sponged and slip trailed. The pieces are raw-glazed. The work is fired in a gas kiln 1100°c
History and Background
Now living and working in my workshop at Le Boussac -35750 Iffendic, France 1998 – 2006 Owned and ran country restaurant in Brittany France 1992 – 1998 Moved to France – set up workshop making domestic ware. 1984 – 1992 Set up workshop and made domestic ware. Ran courses in mixed media for children at Richmond Adult College, Surrey
