Current Work
All work is reduction fired stoneware. There is a constantly changing
display of pots to see, from domestic ware to gallery pieces. Technical InformationAll pots are thrown using a self mixed clay, two wheels are used, one a momentum wheel, [favorite] and a Shimpo. All the glazes are mixed using wood ashes, local stone dusts, different clays and slips. The kiln used is a self-built gas fired downdraught of some 36cu.ft. HistoryI have been a potter for over thirty years and over this time pots have evolved continually. I fire stoneware clay to 1320c. My glazes are made up using locally sourced materials i.e. wood ashes stone dusts etc these are all fired in my gas kiln. I am at present working with a wood fired Anagama kiln that offers different qualities in surface decoration, the pots are subjected to a minimum of twenty four hours of firing and emerge scorched and covered in ash, this is deposited on the pots during the firing. |
