Artist's StatementMy work is thrown with hand-modelled handles and then decorated using coloured slips. I enjoy the process of making pots and want this to be reflected in my work. The firing process and being involved in the process fascinate me. I feel that a sodium atmosphere reveals the textures and surfaces of the pot. Current Work
Salt glazed tableware, washbasins, stools, tiled tables, birdbaths,
fountains, wind sculptures, nesting boxes and tortoise houses. Technical InformationAll my work is once fired. The salt is introduced dry using a compressor and spray gun around 1225ºC. The process takes about 2 hours. History
Early retirement from the Health Service in 1990 enabled me to pursue a
long-standing interest in pottery. I was fortunate in being able to do
a postgraduate diploma at Goldsmith's college. 1990-1992. There, I had
the opportunity to study with the full and part-time faculty, as well
as take part in tutorials. Whilst at Goldsmith's I became involved in
sodium vapour firing and graduated using this technique. I also had the
opportunity to build a kiln.
