Current Work

My work is hand built predominantly in crank, a coarse heavily grogged clay body whose building qualities ably match my desire for scale and pace of making.

When engaged with clay I am absorbed by the immediate and responsive process, working instinctively with the energy of the surface and form.
Surface is integral and is built when the clay is still raw energised and at its most responsive. Colour is initially layered with slips drawn and scribed through directly into the body of the clay.
My palette is mixed by eye using glaze and body stains added to base slips and second application glazes.
