Artist's statement

Artist's statement

I am constantly curious and fascinated by the medium I work with, its infinite, and suits my need for multiple working methods to achieve the aesthetics that Im after.
I have two main bodies of work, thrown functional ware which seems unconsciously to capture the  mood of my adopted home, Malta, and conceptual work.
My conceptual pieces are produced through a lengthy design and development process, usually triggered by social interaction, news items and often display my British sense of humour. Techniques in their making may include throwing, slip casting, extruding or slab building.

Current work and Availability

Current work and Availability

Stoneware thrown functional items and conceptual work with multiple working methods fired in an electric kiln to cone 6 oxidation.

Availability of work:
My work is available in Malta from:
Gallery Pi in Valletta,
Ciappetti Restaurant in Mdina
Ceramika Maltija in Attard
- and various local artisan markets.
In 2012 I will be looking for a shop/gallery in the UK to stock my work and will be formatting an online shop.

Technical Information

Technical Information

I fire to cone 6 in two electric kilns and achieve variegated colours by applying multiple layers of glazes that I mix myself.  I like a surface with depth and detail creating minute landscapes.

Career Background

Career Background

Ive been working with clay since 1993, initially attending local Maltese ceramic courses, however in 2005, desperately wanting a higher standard of education,  I started a part time course at Glasgow School of Art,  graduating with a first class BA (Hons) Degree in Design, Ceramics in 2011.

I have a well established studio of my own and work as a Technical Manager for a local Maltese Heritage pottery.  Ive exhibited extensively locally since 1999 and have also taken part in shows in Scotland, England and Cyprus.
