Current Work

William Plumptre makes a range of stoneware pieces including domestic pots. He is well known for his press moulded and one off pieces such as bowls and vases.

He fires in a 40 cu ft downdraft gas kiln to orton cone 11 and uses wood ash and local granite glazes whenever possible.

History

History

1980 - 1983 - Attended Chelsea Art School, Shepherds Bush, London. 3 year London Dip course ceramic design
1983 - 1984 - Started a workshop in London for one man show.
Jan to June 1985 - Studied with Takeo Tsudo potter Mashiko, Japan.
July to Dec 1985 - Studied with Tamaki Tamotsu kiln builder. Tamaki Tamotsu apprenticed with Takeshi Yasuda and specialised in anagama and climbing kilns.
Jan to Dec 1986 - Studied with Shimaoka Tatsuzo potter. National Treasure Mashiko, Japan.
Jan 1987 - Left Shimaoka Tatsuzo. Visited other potters in Southern Japan and South Korea.
Jan 1988 - 1994 - Established Workshop at Hartsop, Cumbria.
Jan 1994 - Moved workshop to new premises at Witherslack, Cumbria
Oct 1999 - Returned to Japan for one month and visited Shimaoka Tatsuzo
