Anna Lambert presents new wall mounted ceramics with supporting drawings and design notes. For 30 years Anna has exhibited hand built earthenware vessels depicting landscape and wildlife throughout Britain and internationally. In this exhibition of experimental pieces, the potential for making large slab formed wall pieces incorporating platters and spoons is explored.
Initial motivation for the project included finding a way to continue working despite a deteriorating shoulder condition; the emergence of a new more painterly and sculptural approach to landscape has resulted in some unexpected new ideas.

Maggie Barnes says “During the last twelve months I’ve been privileged to observe, and occasionally advise Anna Lambert, one of the UK’s best known ceramic artists, during a period of Arts Council funded Research and Development.

The decision to enter what has been a challenging time of transition for Anna began when she took time out to study for an MA. During this time she explored alternative techniques in order to ease a problematic muscular condition, and by so doing ensure the continued growth of her already successful studio practice. This enabled the production of larger works, the development of a more painterly approach to surface decoration, and created a base for further research into making ‘Flat Things’ which became the working title for her Arts Council supported Project.

Transition is an uncomfortable place for an established maker; to leave a secure place and venture into new territory brings with it both excitement and self-doubt, especially once there’s the realisation that there’s no turning back. Anna’s courageous career move has brought her work to a new level of excellence, and can only enhance her established profile as a maker in the field of fine art ceramics”
