Emily-Kriste Wilcox is a specialist in handbuilding and has been a professional ceramicist for over 14 years.  The consideration of both construction of form as well as the surface treatment layered up with decorating slips, continues to be a distinguishing feature of her signature style, and she strives for balance in the aesthetic function across all the vessels that she creates.
She has developed the ability to provide a strong sense of place through bringing elements of the outside world into the home, whether that’s through the use of colour, creating ‘paintings in clay’ that evoke the landscape or a view across the sea; or indeed the construction of items suitable for plants or fresh flower displays from the garden.
The newest addition to her repertoire is the Pattern & Surface collection launched in 2019 (and pictured above), which is going to be featured in a selling show entitled “1000 Vases” during Milan Design Week in 2020.  Items from this collection can add a level of contrast in both colour and tone to your home decor, and give a contemporary twist on the classic blue too.

Coastal colours feature regularly across Emily’s collections – with strong navy blues or muted tonal combinations of soft blues reminiscent of the sky and sea.  The oval forms in particular, make clear reference to the tea caddies from the V&A collection for exploration of form, which in turn inform the continuation of markmaking, where the story or the view travels around the multi-faceted panels with an effortless flow of movement, softly punctuated by a considered coloured seam or join.
Each of these slabbuilt vessels is created by Emily in her Birmingham studio, and there are several overlapping characteristics of her 4 distinct collections which enable them to be mixed and matched to create your own unique grouping.
